The civil division of the Office of the Gary City Clerk is responsible for processing civil court cases, receiving garnishment checks, maintaining records of court appearances, posting cash bonds and court appearances, collecting fines, and includes the following:
The civil division processes and records all bench warrants issued and/or recalled by the civil division of the Gary City Court.
When the civil court orders a garnishment, it is the responsibility of the civil division of the Office of the Gary City Clerk to record and maintain the collection history of all financial transactions.
The civil division processes all new cases filed of evictions related to persons and/or real property and logs them into permanent record books and a computer database.
Gary Common Council
The Gary City Clerk is responsible for the preparation of minutes, agendas, notices of all calls for special meetings, and the recording and maintaining of all original Gary Common Council proceedings inclusive of votes and the final processing of ordinances and resolutions.
The Gary City Clerk is responsible for the printing of cumulative supplements to the code into permanent volumes.
The Gary City Clerk is responsible for the stamping and delivering of the council approved Annual City of Gary Operating Budget to the city controller for submission into the gateway system operated through the state.
Boards and Commissions
The Gary City Clerk has the authority to administer oaths, which includes that of swearing in appointed members of various city boards and commissions.
The civil division maintains a computer database of all city court cases.
